During a season known for its magic and merriment, Chartway Federal Credit Union is making spirits bright by joining forces with the U.S. Marine Corps to deliver gifts to less fortunate children through their annual Toys for Tots drive.

With a goal to collect 2,000 toys, the credit union is encouraging area members and residents to drop off toys in the collection boxes located in Chartway branches throughout Hampton Roads. Although each and every collection bin is
special and different, there is one very special box that is gathering a great deal of attention. Built by two credit union
volunteers, the donation box located at Chartway’s Corporate Center on Newtown Road pays homage to the brave and generous men and women in uniform. The volunteers recreated Joe Rosenthal’s famous photograph of the raising of the
U.S. flag at the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II.

Describing the credit union’s commitment to making a difference, President & CEO Ron Burniske stated, “We are indescribably grateful for the artistic talent of two talented men who created this incredible piece, and are honored to
partner with the U.S. Marine Corps to deliver the joy of the holiday season to children in need, as we have for more than
a decade. The simple gesture of a gift has the power to deliver that magical dose of cheer!”

Additionally, Chartway Federal Credit Union’s employee-driven Community Action Response Team is adopting families
supported by the Samaritan House to make sure children affected by domestic violence have the opportunity to experience the joy of Christmas, using funds they raised throughout the year.

“Improving our communities is at the heart of who we are. We are humbled to be able to light up the season and the lives of others by blessing them with acts of generosity and kindness during this special time of year,” noted Burniske.

Two credit union volunteers recreated Joe Rosenthal’s famous photograph of the raising of the U.S. flag at the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II, which serves as the toy collection box at Chartway FCU’s Corporate Center located at 160 Newtown Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
